A Lifelong Commitment to Human Dignity
Fred Shariet is a former prisoner of conscience from Iran whose personal experiences have shaped a lifelong commitment to human dignity, compassion, and helping those facing hardship. A longtime resident of Atlanta, Georgia, Fred was also a friend of the late Congressman John Lewis, whose legacy of courage, nonviolence, and commitment to human rights deeply resonated with his own experiences and values.
Fred brings to HWBN a long-standing dedication to giving hope to people facing some of the most difficult and isolating circumstances of their lives.
For many years, he has devoted his time and energy to supporting prisoners and their families, understanding from personal experience that imprisonment affects far more than the individual behind bars. Families and loved ones are often left to cope with uncertainty, separation, fear, and profound emotional hardship.
Giving Hope to Those Who Feel Forgotten
An important part of Fred’s humanitarian work has involved communicating with international NGOs and humanitarian organizations to draw attention to the circumstances of prisoners and the families affected by their imprisonment.

His efforts have sought to give a voice to those who may feel forgotten or isolated and, above all, to remind them that they are not alone.
For Fred, giving hope did not begin with HWBN. It has been part of his life and humanitarian commitment for many years.

Long before Hope Without Borders Network began its activities, he was already reaching out to people in difficult circumstances, helping their voices be heard and reminding families facing uncertainty that there are others who care about their struggles.
