Stop the Executions in Iran: Urgent UN Action Needed

Your Excellency,
We, the undersigned, express our deep concern over the escalating human rights crisis in Iran, particularly the recent surge in executions, arbitrary arrests, unfair trials, and the persecution of political dissidents, protesters, and ethnic and religious minorities.
According to reports from human rights organizations and United Nations experts, many executions have been carried out following proceedings that fall short of international standards of due process. Minority communities, including Kurds, Baluchis, Baha’is, Sunni Muslims, Christians, and others, continue to face discrimination, arbitrary detention, and disproportionate punishment.
The impact extends far beyond those imprisoned or executed. Families are often denied information about their loved ones, subjected to intimidation and surveillance, prevented from mourning publicly, and left to cope with severe economic hardship. These practices inflict lasting trauma on entire communities and deepen the climate of fear across the country.
These actions violate Iran’s obligations under international human rights law, including the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
We respectfully urge the United Nations to:
- Call for an immediate halt to executions carried out following unfair, politically motivated, or non-transparent judicial proceedings and urge Iranian authorities to uphold international standards of due process and human rights.
- Strengthen support for UN monitoring, fact-finding, and accountability mechanisms to investigate human rights violations and ensure those responsible are held accountable.
The time for action is now.
